How to open your eBook files on an iPad

iPadIf you have an iPad, you can use the iBooks and Kindle apps on your device to preview the files.

Opening the ePUB in the iBooks app

  1. On your iPad, open the email you have been sent with the files.
  2. Hold down the icon for the ePUB file attachment. A menu should open which says Open In. Select iBooks.
  3. The book should automatically open in iBooks for you to review.

Opening the Mobi in the Kindle app

  1. Start by opening the Kindle app. If you do not have the Kindle App you can download it from the App Store. Unlike iBooks, the file may not load correctly unless the Kindle app is opened first.
  2. On your iPad, open the email you’ve been sent with the files.
  3. Hold down the icon for the Mobi file attachment. A menu should open which says Open In. Select Kindle.
  4. The book should now open in the Kindle app.

Deleting older versions

Because these files are automatically added to the iBooks or Kindle libraries on your iPad, it is important that you delete earlier versions before you attempt to download and view any revised files. In both applications, you remove books from your library by holding your finger on the cover till a menu appears with the option to remove the book from your library. Once you have done that we also recommend turning your iPad off completely and restarting it to clear the cache.
